Apr 28, 2023 (China Knowledge) - China's third "Hualong 1" nuclear power unit has officially begun commercial operation on March 25th in the Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station. This power station is not only the first nuclear power project built in the western region but also a significant project for the western regional development for Guangxi, an autonomous region.
The project aims to construct six one-million-kilowatt nuclear power units, which can provide 53 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually that could satisfy the annual electricity needs of 9 million people. Additionally, the project is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 44 million tons, equivalent to afforestation of 120,000 hectares, contributing significantly to the green transformation of Guangxi's energy industry.
