Apr 08, 2021 (China Knowledge) - According to Forbes, Beijing is now home to more billionaires than the reigning leader, New York City. In 2020, Beijing gained 33 more billionaires, bringing the tally to 100; 1 more than New York City.

In terms of total population, New York City is 40% the size of Beijing, with an 8.4 mln population. Beijing on the other hand, has a population of 21 mln.

The richest individual of Beijing is Zhang Yiming, the founder of Bytedance, who is worth USD 35.6 bln. In New York City, the richest billionaire is Michael Bloomberg, with a net worth of USD 59 bln.

China has in recent years seeing fast growing figures, having 210 new billionaires minted in 2020, more than any other nation, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
