Mar 18, 2021 (China Knowledge) - The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has said that its industry expects to see passenger trips recovering to around 90% of the pre-epidemic level this year. The volume of air transportation for cargo and mail are also expected to rebound back to pre-epidemic level.

The latest data published by CAAC shows that the country’s civil aviation industry handled about 23.95 mln passenger trips alone in Feb 2021, a huge jump of 187.1% YoY. The transport volume of air cargo and mail increased from 54.7% YoY to 459,000 tons.

The CAAC said it will continue to assist the civil aviation industry, implementing further tax, fee cuts and favorable financing policies to further improve the industry as COVID-19 is the biggest uncertainty faced by the civil aviators.

Despite the wake of COVID-19, China’s civil aviation industry handled 420 mln passenger trips in 2020 (63.3% of that in 2019), but it still holds the position of the world’s second largest in terms of passenger trips for 15th consecutive year.
