Jan 07, 2019 (China Knowledge) - Manbang Group (also known as Full Truck Alliance), which is China’s largest truck hailing company, is looking into creating a fleet of self-driving trucks through the use of its wealth of transportation data and a strategic investment into PlusAI Inc. which focuses on driverless cargo vehicles.
According to CEO of PlusAI Liu Wanqian, driverless cargo vehicles will play a key role in the development of the logistics industry, improving road safety and enhancing efficiency. The company’s tie-up with Manbang will be critical for them to accelerate their development, given that Manbang already serves 5.2 million trucks and more than 1.2 million logistics firms.
The two companies have agreed to cooperate on high-definition map data collection and large-scale driverless commercial fleets. PlusAI aims to create a driverless commercial fleet with more than 1,000 level 4 autonomous trucks within 2 years.
Last November, the two companies also announced partnerships with FAW Group and Nvidia for the development of a self-driving truck fleet. Under the partnership, FAW will help to produce the trucks, while Nvidia will provide its latest computing platform to operate the driverless fleet.
PlusAI has since obtained a license to conduct road tests of its driverless truck technologies in Changzhou, Jiangsu after completing successful tests in a Suning logistics park and Shanghai highway.
