Dec 27, 2018 (China Knowledge) - China’s Minister of Science and Technology, Wang Zhigang has highlighted the importance of national high-tech zones in pushing the country innovation-driven development in the past 30 years. He was delivering a speech at the 30th anniversary of high-tech zones in Beijing, yesterday.
The country has built a total of 168 high-tech zones, which have served as an important growth engine in China’s economic development.
High-tech zones have managed to attract 52,000 high tech enterprises, accounting for 38.2% of the country’s total in 2017. They have also generated a revenue of USD 4.46 trillion in 2017; which accounted for 11.5% of the national GDP.
Attractive business environment in high-tech zones have continued to attract enterprises. These zones that have seen increasing popularity over the year will continue to lead innovative and high-quality technological development for the country’s growth.
Wang hopes that with these high-tech zones taking lead in driving development, more breakthroughs are expected in country’s technology sector.
The total export volume of enterprises in the high-tech zones has reached USD 478 billion in 2017, accounting for nearly 20% of the nation’s total export of goods and services, in the same year.
