Dec 26, 2018 (China Knowledge) - A spokesperson of leading British telecommunication service provider BT Group plc <BT:NYSE> has dispelled rumors of terminating the company’s partnership with Huawei in an interview with Xinhua on Monday.

Earlier, it was reported that BT had decided not to use Huawei’s equipment in its 5G mobile network.

However, according to the BT’s spokesperson, despite not engaging Huawei in its 5G mobile core, the company still remains a significant equipment supplier for BT’s 5G Radio Access Network.

BT is the largest mobile operator and the largest provider of consumer fixed-line voice and broadband services in Britain. The company has worked with Huawei, China’s leading provider of information and communications technology (OCT) infrastructure and smart devices since 2005.

Huawei is currently one of the leading provider of 5G network equipment in the British market and has worked closely with many local carriers. Earlier last year, BT and Huawei has also announced a new five-year initiative that aims to establish a joint research and collaboration group at the University of Cambridge.

BT spokesman has also emphasized on Huawei being a valued innovation partner of the company. He had also mentioned that Huawei will remains as an important supplier of access equipment in the 4G and 5G network of the company.
