Oct 19, 2018 (China Knowledge) - The Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence and Data Lab (HKAI Lab), a non-profit project jointly established by Alibaba, SenseTime and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, officially kicked off its business yesterday in Hong Kong. It aims to nurture local artificial intelligence technology (AI), data talents and promote local innovation and technology.
Seven startups selected for the first round of HKAI Lab's Startup Accelerator Program will move into the lab this month as the lab has a startup accelerator program and each selected AI startup will receive USD 100,000 in startup funding. Additionally, cloud computing and AI resources from the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund will also be provided to them. Each startup will be free to enter the laboratory for 6 months.
The startups focus on urban planning, marketing, B2B solutions, financial technology, building testing and social networking. In addition to funding, artificial intelligence technology, cloud computing and network resources and workspaces, they also have the opportunity to work with Alibaba, Sensetime and other local or overseas enterprises. They can meet potential investors and business representatives to accelerate the commercialization of research and development projects.
Zhang Jianfeng, CTO of Alibaba, said that Hong Kong has excellent scientific research talent, a diversified and inclusive business environment, and policies to encourage innovation and development. It can become an important base for embracing and promoting innovation. He believes that with the support of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, the Innovation and Technology Council and the Innovation and Technology Fund, the incubation of HKAI Lab, and the cooperation of Sensetime and Alibaba, Hong Kong's outstanding startups will have more space for development and enhance Hong Kong's position as a regional innovation center.
