Jun 13, 2019 (China Knowledge) - China has introduced its first guidelines to regulate its commercial space sector in order to guide the health development of commercial space rockets manufacturing and test flights.
Since China’s space industry was opened to the private sector in 2014, a number of new companies have entered the field, and these guidelines are the first to have been introduced to the sector.
Under the new guidelines, companies have to obtain official permission before carrying out rocket research, development as well as production, according to the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.
In addition, commercial rocket companies also have to establish a confidentiality system and follow state export control regulations when in doubt if they can provide overseas services and products.
The new rules come as the number of companies in the commercial space sector surged to nearly 100 in 2018 from just 30 a year ago as Beijing increases its focus on private sector involvement to boost its space ambitions.
Having guidelines will give a clear direction for the country’s commercial space industry regarding qualifications, operational boundaries and national guarantees that will allow the sector to development in a health and orderly fashion.
