Jan 07, 2019 (China Knowledge) - Audi’s sales hit a record 660,888 units last year, allowing the automaker to maintain its positions as the best-selling premium car brand in China, according to its joint venture FAW-Volkswagen.
Last year, sales in China went up by 11% YoY for Audi with sales of locally produced Audi cars increasing by 10.2% over the same period. The increase in sales comes despite a slowing market for cars in China with overall sales for the auto industry expected to fall for the first time since 1990.
The company attributes its strong sales to effective brand marketing, the introduction of high-quality models and its continually improving service standards. The company has long been a best-seller in the country since entering the Chinese market 30 years ago and has sold more than 5 million cars in the country.
Audi launched 16 models in China last year and will continue introducing new models to the Chinese market this year. Of the new models this year, the highly anticipated electric SUV e-tron model is also expected to make its debut.
The company will continue to develop more high-end electric vehicles to cater to Chinese customers as it looks to take a foothold in the world’s largest and fastest growing electric vehicle market.
Audi is expected to become a market leader in China’s electric vehicle market with the segment contributing to 30% of the brand’s total sales by 2025.
