Dec 07, 2018 (China Knowledge) - Tesla has started the construction of its Gigafactory in Shanghai, the company plan to start partial production by the end of next year. According to reports, land leveling at the construction site has been completed and the construction is going ahead as per schedule on Tesla Inc.’s building site. The Mayor and vice mayor of Shanghai visited the site and monitored the progress of construction. Shanghai municipal government has also, on Wednesday, confirmed the news of Tesla beginning their production partially by the second half of next year.
Tesla plans to accelerate the development of its Gigafactory to meet its timeline for achieving production of Model 3 cars.
Electric car sales are surging in China, with a record number of 579, 000 EVs sold last year. This figure is by far the highest compared to other countries like the U.S., France and Norway.
The manufacturing project by Tesla in Shanghai is expected to have the capacity to produce 250, 000 cars per year. The timely entrance of Tesla to China may allow It to escape the tariffs arising from the Sino-U.S. trade war, as it seeks to pursue the world’s biggest automotive market.
