Dec 06, 2018 (China Knowledge) - Keppel Urban Solutions, together with Envision Group had announced the signing of a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Administrative Committee of Jiangsu Wuxi Economic Development Zone for the development of a Smart Internet of Things (IoT) City in Taihu, yesterday.
Keppel Urban Solution, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation, a Singapore government-linked conglomerate. The company will be working with Chinese energy company Envision and the local authorities in Wuxi, to develop an IoT City which will include a smart IoT industry park in Xuelang Town of Taihu New City.
Wuxi currently houses China's first and only national innovative demonstration zone for the IoT industry. Till date, the province has seen more than 200 IoT projects coming to fruition, with innovations used to enhance a wide variety of ventures around the world.
The province has also been touted by the Chinese government as the key ground for IoT and digital innovation in the country. Xuelang Town, where the smart IoT City will be developed, aims to house high-technology industries in the fields of artificial intelligence and IoT.
Keppel, Envision, and the Wuxi municipal government will be adopting the city-industry integration model in their project. This will help all parties achieve the scalability and the potential to replicate its success in Wuxi to other smart city transformation in China and other parts of the world.
Li Xiaomin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CPC and Party Secretary of the Wuxi Municipal Committee of the CPC, participated the signing ceremony of the MoU. He pledged his commitment to the project, where the municipal government will provide relevant government services to support implementation of the MoU.
CEO of Keppel Corporation, Mr Loh Chin Hua, believes that the company's strong track record in planning and developing large-scale projects, together with its expertise in infrastructure, energy, property, and connectivity will help boost project’s development.
One of Keppel most prominent project in China will be the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city bilateral project, where the company leads the Singapore consortium in the 50-50 master developer joint venture.
The signing of the MoU has signified the organisations' commitment to develop its cooperation further; which will allow the development of a successful landmark project.
