Nov 08, 2018 (China Knowledge) - The Shanghai government has signed a new cooperation deal with Israel’s science and technology ministry at the China International Import Expo (CIIE).
The two countries will be collaborating in the fields of life science, agricultural technology, energy, environment and education together with various other sectors according to the memorandum signed between Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong and Israel’s science and technology minister Ofir Akunis.
Both countries are technology leaders in their respective regions with China being home to technology giants such as Alibaba, Baidu and Tencent. Similarly, Israel is also well known as a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and research.
China and Israel have had strong bilateral ties with trade between the two countries standing at USD 13 billion, last year. China is currently Israel’s largest trading partner in Asia and third largest in the world.
Back in 2014, the two countries also established the China-Israel Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation to enhance and coordinate innovative cooperation in various fields.
Ahead of the CIIE, Minister Akunis has lauded the event as a great opportunity for the world to increase mutual cooperation.
