China's sugar imports up 0.79% in Oct

Nov. 22, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China, the world's third-largest sugar producer and second-largest sugar consumer, imported 339,700 metric tons of sugar in October this year, 0.79% more than in the same month of last year, according to the latest statistics released by the General Administration of Customs.

The sugar imports last month was less than 585,600 metric tons it realized in September and 583,400 metric tons in August 2012.

Last month, the country saw its average import price of sugar hit US$592.45 per metric tons, higher than US$562.66 a month earlier.

In the first ten months of this year, the country's sugar imports amounted to 3.35 million metric tons, 7.02% more than in the corresponding period of last year.
