Sep. 21, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China's cement output grew 8.7% YoY in August this year, according to the latest statistics released by the National Development and Reform Commission
In the first eight months, the country's cement output amounted to 1.38 billion metric tons, 5.9% more than in the corresponding period of last year.
Last month, China's flat glass output fell 8.4% YoY, compared with a 10.2% growth in August 2011. The output of flat glass totaled 479.65 million weight boxes in the first eight months, down 4.2% YoY, compared with a 17.9% growth in the corresponding period of 2011.
At the end of last month, the cement inventory of major cement enterprises increased 6.4% YoY to 13.46 million metric tons.
The price of flat glass saw slight rebound last month, rising RMB 0.8 per weight box MoM to RMB 60.5 per weight box.
The building material industry realized RMB 166.2 billion in profit in the first seven months of this year, reflecting a decrease of 9.6% YoY. The profit of the cement sector plunged 53.1% YoY to RMB 26.1 billion. The flat glass sector suffered a loss of RMB 520 million in the period, compared a net profit of RMB 2.59 billion in the first seven months of 2011.
