China adds US$2.6 bln US Treasuries in Jul

Sep. 19, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China raised its holding of U.S. Treasury securities by US$2.6 billion in Jul this year, according to the latest report issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

By the end of Jul, China saw its holding of U.S. Treasury securities amounted to US$1.15 trillion and it remains the largest holder of U.S. debt.

However, China has unloaded US$2.3 billion U.S. Treasury securities since this year.

Mei Xinyu, researcher of the ministry of commerce international trade and economic cooperation research institute, said that there is a risk to hold a large number of U.S. Treasury securities because the U.S. financial deficit and debt is impossible to solve in the foreseeable future.
