Sep. 17, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Unilever PLC, a Anglo-Dutch multinational corporation that owns many of the world's consumer product brands in foods, beverages, cleaning agents and personal care products, has announced its plan to set up a new production base in Meishan
With a land area of about 400 Mu, the company will invest nearly RMB 300 million for the first phase of the project. When it starts operation in May 2014, the production line will produce laundry detergent with a capacity of 200,000 metric tons.
Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever PLC, said that, the building of Meishan plant does not only consider the lower material and labor costs but also its plan to expand the growing western region market.
The Meishan plant will produce Unilever China's full line of products in future to meet the needs of the western market as well as for the export business.
At present, Unilever's annual China sales is about RMB 15 billion and it aims to realize RMB 50 billion by 2020, said Zeng Xiwen, vice-president of Unilever China.
