Municipality saw its export and import value surged 130% YoY to US$35.27 billion in the first eight months of this year, according to the latest statistics released by the Chongqing Customs.
In the first eight months, the city saw its export value hit US$25.94 billion, reflecting a YoY increase of 170%, while its import value for the period grew 67.6% YoY to US$9.33 billion.
The value of exports and imports under processing trade was US$8.99 billion and US$1.17 billion in the eight-month period, up 260% and 190% from a year earlier, respectively.
From January to August, the city's export of mechanical and electrical products jumped 160% YoY to US$16.48 billion, while the import of mechanical and electrical products reached US$7.29 billion, up 84.4% from a year earlier.
Chongqing exported 22 million units of laptops during the eight-month period, 280% more than it realized in the same period of 2011.
