China's crude oil imports down 12.5% in Aug

Sep. 11, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China, the world's second largest oil consumer after the U.S., imported 21.04 million metric tons of crude oil in August this year, 12.5% less than that in the same month of last year, according to the latest figures from China's General Administration of Customs.

The crude oil imports last month were 15.7% less than the 21.83 million metric tons in July and were the lowest level since October 2010.

In the first eight months of this year, China's crude oil imports amounted to 180.3 million metric tons, up 7.4% from the same period of last year.

The country processed 37.74 million metric tons of crude oil last month, 1.5% more than in August 2011, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
