Sep. 10, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China's retail sales were RMB 1.67 trillion in August this year, up 13.2% year on year in nominal terms or 1.28% month on month, said the National Bureau of Statistics
Total retail sales in urban areas rose 13.1% YoY to RMB 1.45 trillion last month, while retail sales in rural areas rose 14.3% YoY to RMB 217.7 billion.
Retail sales in the catering industry grew 13.1% YoY to RMB 193.6 billion in the month, while retail sales of consumer goods rose 13.3% YoY to RMB 1.47 trillion.
The retail sales of automobiles continued to top the country's retail sales list, reaching RMB 195.4 billion in August, up 2.4% YoY, but the growth rate has slowed down. Retail sales of oil and related products came in second, hitting RMB 140.4 billion, with a 13.2% growth.
In the first eight months, the country's retail sales totaled RMB 13.12 trillion, 14.1% more than in the same period of last year.
