GCL-Poly approved to build mainland's biggest solar power plant

Aug. 28, 2012 (China Knowledge) - GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Ltd<3800>, the world’s leading polysilicon and wafer supplier, announced yesterday that it has obtained approval from the National Energy Administration to start the preparatory work for construction on 310-megawatt ground-mounted and 30-MW roof-top solar projects Datong of Shanxi Province.

The company said in a statement that the project will be largest solar farm in China and one of the largest single-unit solar farms in the world.

The company said earlier that it expected to book a loss of HK$330 million in the first half of this year, compared with a net profit of HK$3.55 billion in the same period of 2011.

At the end of last year, the company's annual polysilicon production capacity had increased to 65,000 metric tons, and its wafer production capacity had risen to 8 GW.
