China Southern Airlines sees 84% plunge in H1 profit

Aug. 28, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China Southern Airlines Co Ltd<600029><1055>, the country's largest air carrier by fleet size, has announced its net profit attributable to shareholders decreased 83.7% YoY to RMB 449 million in the first half of this year.

Basic earnings per share for the period were RMB 0.05, less than RMB 0.28 it realized in the corresponding period of 2011.

According to a statement, the air carrier earned RMB 48.03 billion in operation revenue in the six-month period, reflecting a YoY increase of 13.2%.

From January to June, China Southern Airlines’ passenger throughput rose 7.2% YoY to 41.21 million, while its cargo and mail throughput hit 577,000 metric tons, up 7.6% from a year earlier.

The company saw its passenger load factor dropped 1.1% to 79.5% during the six months period.
