Semiconductor Manufacturing Co or TSMC, the world's largest contract chip maker by revenue, has said it will allocate US$2.41 billion to upgrade its 28nm technology.
company said in a statement that the money will also be used to develop its new generation technology for 28nm above.
Meanwhile, the contract chip maker has said it will set up a new plant in Taiwan with investment of US$378.7 million. No details were disclosed.
Last month, TSMC reported that its operation revenue for the second quarter of this year to increase 15.9% YoY to NT$128.06 billion or US$4.28 billion, while its net profit for the period reached NT$41.81 billion or US$1.4 billion, up 16.3% from a year earlier.
