Xiamen Airlines to buy 40 Boeing 737s

Aug. 6, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China Southern Airlines Co Ltd<600029><1055>, the country's largest air carrier by fleet size, announced that its subsidiary, Xiamen Airlines, will buy 40 Boeing 737 aircrafts with a contractual value worth US$3.36 billion.

According to the agreement, Boeing will deliver the 40 aircrafts between 2016 and 2019.

In a statement the air carrier said that the company's capacity will increase by about 7.93% than last year’s after the transaction.

From January to June, Xiamen Airlines saw its passenger throughput rose 11% YoY to 8.05 million, while its cargo and mail throughput up 4.2% from a year earlier to 83,000 metric tons.

In the first half of this year, Xiamen Airlines realized RMB 7.84 billion in operation revenue, increased 17.7% YoY and its net profit hit RMB 820 million during the period.
