Jul. 24, 2012 (China Knowledge) – The chemical industry in China saw its profits decreased 19.3% YoY to RMB 124.9 billion in the first five months of this year, according to figures released by the National Development and Reform Commission
The fertilizer industry realized RMB 15.7 billion in profit in the first five months, 10% more than that in the same period of last year.
During the period from January to June, the output of ethylene decreased 3.3% YoY to 7.58 million metric tons, and that of plastics in primary form grew 9.4% to 26.05 million metric tons.
The country saw its synthetic rubber output increase 5.9% YoY to 1.84 million metric tons during the period and its synthetic fiber rise 12.6% YoY to 17.01 million metric tons.
In the first half of this year, China produced a total of 13.04 million metric tons of caustic soda, reflecting a YoY increase of 3.2%, while the output of soda ash, chemical fertilizer, pesticides and calcium carbide reached 12.03 million metric tons, 37.05 million metric tons, 1.72 million metric tons and 9.65 million metric tons, up 7.5%, 11.9% 21.8% and 7.8% from a year earlier, respectively.
