Municipality saw its export skyrocket 250% YoY in the first half of this year, with export value hitting US$18.15 billion, according to the latest statistics released by the Chongqing Customs.
In the first six months, the city's imports surged 77.4% from a year earlier to US$6.89 billion, taking its foreign trade to a total of US$25.04 billion during the period, reflecting a growth of 170% year on year.
The local customs said that the sharp increases in the city's exports and imports were a result of booming processing trade, which exceeded US$7.8 billion in the period, including US$7.01 billion in export value and accounted for 38.6% of the city's total.
Laptops were the top exported products. The city exported 17.61 million laptops in the first half of this year with export value of US$6.04 billion, 4.5 times more than it realized in the same period of 2011.Chongqing
's private enterprise generated US$11.88 billion in foreign trade, up 240% YoY and accounting for 47.5% of the city's total, of which, the export value rose 260% YoY to US$10.24 billion.
