Jul. 13, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China's retail sales were RMB 1.66 trillion in June this year, up 13.7% year on year in nominal terms or 1.08% month on month, said the National Bureau of Statistics
Total retail sales in urban areas rose 13.7% YoY to RMB 1.43 trillion last month, while retail sales in rural areas rose 14% YoY to RMB 224 billion.
Retail sales in the catering industry grew 13.2% YoY to RMB 187.7 billion in the month, while retail sales of consumer goods rose 13.8% YoY to RMB 1.47 trillion.
The retail sales of automobiles continued to top the country's retail sales list, reaching RMB 195.7 billion in June, up 6.2% YoY, but the growth rate has slowed down. Retail sales of oil and related products came in second, hitting RMB 137.9 billion, with a 12.2% growth.
In the first six months, the country's retails sales totaled RMB 9.82 trillion, 14.4% more than in the same period of last year.
