Jun. 20, 2012 (China Knowledge) – China, the world's largest cotton consumer saw its cotton import skyrocketed 246.2% YoY to 502,000 metric tons in May, according to figures released by the General Administration of Customs
From January to May 2012, China imported a total of 2.58 million metric tons of cotton, reflecting a YoY increase of 113.8%.
Last month, the cotton price in domestic market continues to fall, which was mainly effected by the significant price decreases in the international market.
The National Bureau of Statistics
earlier announced China's yarn output rose 11.2% YoY last month to 2.67 million metric tons.
In the first five month of this year, the country's yarn output amounted to 23.28 million metric tons, 14.7% more than in the same period of 2011.
