At the end of last month, the company's 3G users had reached 54.50 million.
The company saw its 2G subscribers increase by 370,000 to 161 million in May.
The volume of the firm's fixed-line phone users increased by 166,000 to 92.51 million as of May 31, while its broadband user volume increased by 793,000 million to 59.67 million.
China Unicom expected to reap RMB 70 billion or around US$11.1 billion in revenue from its third-generation mobile services this year, more than the RMB 40 billion it realized last year, said Vice President Shao Guanglu, adding that the company is likely to have 90 million 3G users by the end of this year, China Knowledge reported earlier
