Beijing's CPI up 3.2% in May

Jun. 12, 2012 (China Knowledge) – Beijing, the capital of China, saw its consumer price index (CPI) increased 3.2% in May, according to the latest statistics released by the Beijing Statistics Bureau.

Last month, the city's food price climbed 8.4% YoY including an 11.2% increase in meat, poultry and processed products prices and 29.6% increase in fresh vegetable prices.

The prices of cigarettes, alcohol and related products went up 2.5% YoY, mainly driven by a 5% increase in alcohol prices, while the prices of clothing edge up 0.1% than a year earlier.

The prices of household appliances and maintenance services grew 3.7% YoY and the prices of personal and healthcare products climbed 1.6% YoY in May.

There was an increase of 1.5% in the prices of entertainment and educational services category, and a 2.6% increase in the prices of housing costs. However, the price of transportation and telecommunications decreased 1.4% last month.
