Beijing Hyundai to recall almost 100,000 units of Elantra

Jun. 11, 2012 (China Knowledge) – Beijing Hyundai Motor, a joint venture established by Hyundai Motor and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co Ltd, will recall 97,452 units of Elantra in China from July 10 due to the airbag defects, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in a statement published on its website.

The AQSIQ said that the affected Elantra autos were manufactured between March 16, 2008 and January 15, 2010.

The automaker said that the airbag in these vehicles might cause explosion when in the condition of parking or slow movement, which will affect drivers and passengers' safety, adding that all flawed vehicles will be fixed free.

Last month, the JV saw its auto sales reached 62,400 units adding to its total volume in the first five month of this year to 314,600 units, and ranked sixth among China's passenger vehicle manufacturers.

With an additional annual production of 400,000 units of vehicles and 400,000 units of engines to commence this month, Beijing Hyundai will have an annual output capacity to hit 1 million units.
