LDK Solar secures 600 MW orders in Gansu

Jun. 5, 2012 (China Knowledge) - LDK Solar Co Ltd<LDK>, the world's largest manufacturer of multi-crystalline solar wafers, has signed three multi-year contracts to start three solar projects totaling 600 megawatts all in Gansu Province, China.

Each of the three projects is designed to have a capacity of 200 MW and will be located in the cities of Jiuquan, Jiayuguan and Zhangye.

U.S.-listed LDK Solar saw 39% of its total revenue was derived from sales in China last year, five percentage points higher than in 2010.

The solar module supplier has estimated that China's solar power demand would increase to three gigawatts or four GW this year from about 1 GW last year.

Chairman and CEO Peng Xiaofeng noted we will continue expanding our presence in China as persistent demands for PV project development in the country.

Many solar companies are looking forward to tap on demand from emerging solar markets, including China and India, to offset steep subsidy cuts in top markets, such as Germany and Italy, said analysts.
