May. 14, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China, the world's largest natural rubber importer, imported 170,000 metric tons of the material in April year, 10.5% less than in March, according to the latest statistics released by the General Administration of Customs
The April imports were 5.6% less than in the same month of 2011.
In the first four months of this year, China's natural rubber imports grew 0.6% year on year to 650,000 metric tons, and the import value totaled US$2.2 billion, reflecting a decline of 27.5% year on year.
Last month, the country imported 118,000 metric tons of synthetic rubber. From January to April, China's synthetic rubber import volume totaled 478,000 metric tons, down 5% year on year, with import value rising 4.1% year on year to US$1.75 billion.
