May. 11, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China's retail sales were RMB 1.56 trillion in April this year, up 14.1% year on year in nominal terms or 1.13% month on month, said the National Bureau of Statistics
Total retail sales in urban areas rose 14% year on year to RMB 1.36 trillion last month, while retail sales in rural areas rose 14.5% year on year to RMB 204.9 billion.
Retail sales in the catering industry grew 13% year on year to RMB 168.9 billion in the month, while retail sales of consumer goods rose 14.2% year on year to RMB 1.39 trillion.
The retail sales of automobiles continued to top the country's retail sales list, reaching RMB 173.8 billion in April, up 8.2% year on year, while retail sales of oil and related products came in second, hitting RMB 139.7 billion, with a 15.9% growth.
In the first four months, the country's retails sales totaled RMB 6.49 trillion, 14.7% more than in the same period of last year.
