May. 10, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Sales of the top 100 retail-chains in China totaled RMB 1.65 trillion or around US$238.63 billion last year, according to statistics released by China Chain Store and Franchise Association.
Bailian Group, the parent co of Shanghai Bailian Group Co Ltd<600631
>, ranked first in the list, with sales reaching RMB 118.21 billion, followed by two Chinese household appliance giants Suning Appliance Co Ltd<002024
> and GOME Electrical Appliances Holding Ltd<0493
>, each with sales of RMB 110 billion, said the association.
China Resources Vanguard ranked fourth with sales of RMB 82.7 billion, followed by Concord Investment (China) Co with RMB 61.6 billion, Chongqing General Trading (Group) Co Ltd with RMB 47.8 billion, Carrefour (China) Management Consulting Services Co Ltd with RMB 45.2 billion, Yum! Brands Inc., China Division with RMB 43.4 billion, Walmart China with RMB 43 billion and Wumart Stores Inc<1025> with RMB 41.07 billion.
Guo Geping, Chairwoman of the association, said some traditional Chinese retail-chains saw negative growth in the first quarter of this year, as the domestic consumers are younger and richer than in the past, sources reported.
