China's coal output up 5.6% in Q1

May. 9, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China, the world's largest coal producer and consumer, saw its coal output reach 860 million metric tons in the first quarter of this year, 5.6% more than in the same period of 2011, according to figures from the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing.

In March, the country produced 320 million metric tons of coal, reflecting a growth of 4.9% year on year.

China imported 61.73 million metric tons of coal in the first three months, 63% more than in the corresponding period of last year. The country's coal exports fell 44.7% year on year to 3.2 million metric tons in the period.

The country added 920 million metric tons of coal reserves in the quarter, up 8.1% year on year.

In 2011, the country's coal output rose 8.7% year on year to 3.52 billion metric tons.
