Toyota's China sales surge 68% in Apr

May. 8, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Toyota Motor Corp, along its two joint ventures in China, sold 82,000 vehicles in the country last month, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 68%, said Spokesperson Niu Yu.

In the first fourth months of this year, Toyota saw its China sales amount to 293,000 units, up 14.3% from the same period of last year.

Niu said that the April's sales growth, which was distorted by a low comparison in April 2011 affected by the massive earthquake last year, has little significance, but that the Jan-Apr sales indicated that the company is moving toward our sales target for this year.

In 2012, Toyota aims to sell 1 million vehicles in China, representing a year-on-year growth of 13%. The company's auto sales in China rose only 4.4% from 2010 to 883,400 units last year, China Knowledge reported earlier.
