May. 2, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based
contract laptop maker Compal Electronics Inc has announced that its net profit plunged 46% year on year to NT$1.87 billion in the first quarter of this year.
The significant decline in net profit was in large part due to sluggish sales of notebook computers by major client Acer Inc, which earlier reported a profit drop of 72% year on year.
Compal Electronics, the world's second-largest contract laptop maker after Quanta Computer Inc, saw its revenue fall 15% year on year to NT$139.54 billion in the first three months.
In 2011, the company recorded a net profit of NT$11.02 billion, 53% less than in the previous year.
