Asustek Computer Inc, a leading provider of computers, communications and consumer electronics, said its net profit jumped 46% year on year to NT$5.01 billion in the first quarter of this year, driven by higher shipments of notebook PCs and tablet computers.
The company said in a statement that its revenue rose 23% year on year to NT$90.91 billion in the first three months.
Asustek expected that its notebook PC shipment would increase 42% year on year to 4.4 million units in the second quarter and that its tablet PC shipment would rise to 1.2 million units from 400,000 units in the same period of 2011.
In the first three months, the company\s shipments of notebook PCs and tablet PCs were 4.1 million units and 600,000 units, respectively.
Asustek booked a net profit of NT$4.88 billion in the fourth quarter of 2011, reflecting a growth of 21% year on year. The firm's revenue increased 23% year on year to NT$102.65 billion in the period.
