International Automotive Exhibition, which opened today and will last until May 2, is witnessing a record 1,125 vehicles showcasing at the event that is held every two years.
The auto show, which is expected to attract nearly a million visitors, has an area of 230,000 square meters, almost equal to the area of 235,000 sq m for the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany.
A total of 120 vehicles, comprising 36 autos made by foreign carmakers and 84 cars by domestic manufacturers, are making their global premieres in the Beijing
With an exhibition hall of 9,600 sq m, Volkswagen AG, the largest passenger vehicle maker in China, is showcasing models under its eight brands, consisting of Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborgini, SEAT, Skoda and Porsche.
Chery Automobile Co Ltd, a leading Chinese auto maker based in Anhui Province, is showing 20 models, three of which are making their global premieres.
In the first quarter this year, China's passenger vehicle sales declined by 1.25% from a year earlier, said China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. But analysts estimated sales for 2012 would increase by 8% or 9%.
