In a statement filed with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the company saw its operating revenue for the period increase by 7.8% from a year earlier to RMB 127.4 billion.

The growth of profit and revenue, however, was lower than 5.2% and 8.8% China Mobile realized in 2011, respectively, said a person familiar with the matter.

The Chinese telecommunication giant said its average revenue per user per month, or ARPU, reached RMB 65 in the first quarter of this year, down 12.2% quarter on quarter from RMB 74 ARPU.

In the three months ended Mar. 31, 2012, the company added an average of 5.9 million users per month, bringing its total user volume to 667 million at the end of last month.

Net addition of China Mobile's 3G users stood at 8.35 million in the three-month period, bringing total 3G subscriber number to nearly 60 million as of Mar. 31, 2012.
