's largest five power producers booked a combined loss of RMB 31.22 billion on their thermal power operations last year, RMB 19.07 billion more than in 2010, due to higher coal costs, according to figures from the China
Electricity Council, sources reported.
The five electricity producers saw their overall net profit decrease by RMB 3.43 billion or 15.6% year on year to RMB 18.56 billion in 2011.
The five companies realized RMB 999.69 billion of operating revenue last year, RMB 177.78 billion more than in the previous year.
Total electricity output of the five power producers grew 11.8% year on year to 2,322.1 terawatt hours last year. The output of electricity from thermal power plants increased 12.9% from the 2010.
