, said that Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried a total of 2.39 million passengers in March 2012, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 10.6%.
Passenger load factor for last month reached 79.4%, or 2.5% higher than that in the month of March last year. Capacity for last month, measured in available seat kilometers or ASKs, increased by 8.2%.
The two airlines' cargo and mail throughput for March 2012 totaled 144,100 metric tons, down 10.7% from a year earlier. Cargo and mail load factor amounted to 68.3%, 2.7% lower than that in the same month of last year. Capacity, measured in available cargo and mail tone km, declined by 2.9%.
In the first quarter of this year, the two airlines' passenger throughput grew 9% year on year, but cargo and mail throughput declined 10.5% from a year earlier.
James Woodrow, General Manager of Cathay Pacific Cargo Sales & Marketing, said the domestic air transport industry would continue suffering weak demand in April 2012, adding that Cathay Pacific Airways will reduce capacity if it is necessary.
