Apr. 13, 2012 (China Knowledge) – Fonterra Cooperative Group Ltd, the world's largest exporter of dairy products, announced yesterday it will invest two new farms in Hebei
with an investment of RMB 557 million or NZ$100 million.
The dairy exporter opened its first farm in China in 2007, which is located in Tangshan
Fonterra plans to have a hub with five farms in Hebei
in the next few years, and will have a herd size of around 15,000 milking cows with an annual output capacity of 150 million liters, Theo Spierings, CEO of Fonterra, said yesterday at the official opening of Fonterra's second Chinese farm in Hebei
named Yutian Farm One.
At present, Fonterra's third Chinese farm is constructing in Yutian Country, Hebei
province, and the company's ultimate goal is to produce 1 billion liters milk every year by 2020, Theo added.
Last year, the dairy exporter sold about NZ$2 billion or US$1.64 billion worth of powdered milk and dairy product to China market, sources reported.
