Semiconductor Manufacturing Co or TSMC, the world's largest contract chip maker by revenue, said today that its unconsolidated revenue climbed 0.7% to NT$36.61 billion in March from NT$36.37 billion in the same month of last year.
The company saw its consolidated revenue last month rise 0.6% year on year to NT$37.08 billion.
Chairman Morris Chang said yesterday that the company would raise its capital expenditure for 2012 because of stronger-than-expected demand for 28 nanometer technology. Meanwhile, TSMC will increase initial capacity for more advanced 20 nanometer technology.
In January this year, the company lowered its capital spending budget for this year to US$6.00 billion from the US$7.29 billion it spent on technology migration and capacity expansion last year.
