China's online gaming revenue up 34.4% in 2011

Apr. 2, 2012 (China Knowledge) - The online gaming industry in China reaped RMB 46.85 billion of revenue in 2011, 34.4% more than in the previous year, according to a recent report released by the Ministry of Culture.

The number of online gamers in China experienced a slower growth of 33% year on year in 2011, exceeding 160 million.

The number of mobile phone gamers surged 46% year on year to 50 million last year, and mobile gaming market grew 51.2% to RMB 3.87 billion in the period.

The web gaming market saw a robust growth of 102.1% year on year in 2011, reaching RMB 4.93 billion.

The ministry said that the exports of domestic computer games soared 76% from the previous year to US$403 million in 2011. More than 150 Chinese computer games were sold overseas and 92 of them were developed in 2011.
