Mar. 21, 2012 (China Knowledge) - The civil aviation industry in China saw its passenger volume rise 8.6% year on year to 23.49 million in February this year, according to figures from the Civil Aviation Administration of China
The air passenger volume last month reflected a 8.5% decline from January when air travel demand was boosted by the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday.
Last month, the industry's cargo and mail throughput rose 25.6% year on year to 377,717 metric tons, representing the first positive growth in seven months.
In the first two months of this year, the sector's passenger volume grew 11.1% year on year, while its cargo volume dropped 8.2%.
Last month, domestic airlines suffered a loss of RMB 540 million, due to weak demand and higher fuel costs. Small air carriers outperformed the country's top three air carriers that have more international routes, for which demand was relatively weaker than that for domestic routes.
