Whirlpool teams up with Suning to fuel China growth

Mar. 20, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Whirlpool Corp, the world's largest home appliance maker, said yesterday that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Suning Appliance Co Ltd<002024>, one of the largest electrical appliance retailers in China, to expand its market share in the world's second-largest economy, sources reported.

Through the partnership, Whirlpool will get preferential access to Suning's distribution network of about 1,700 retail outlets in China.

In addition, the Chinese partner will get exclusive access to the Whirlpool brand at National Electronic Super Stores in China as well as preferential access to Whirlpool product innovations.

With Suning's massive distribution channels, Whirlpool aims to double its China sales of air-conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and water heaters in the next three years.

At the end of 2011, Suning Appliance had 1,724 outlets worldwide, including 1,684 units in mainland China, 30 units in Hong Kong and 10 units in Japan, China Knowledge reported earlier.
