China Southern Airlines orders 10 Boeing 777

Feb. 29, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China Southern Airlines Co<600029><1055>, the country's largest air carrier by fleet size, said yesterday it has agreed to buy 10 Boeing 777 with a combined list price of US$2.98 billion.

Aircraft are typically sold at a discount from the list price, said analysts.

The 10 Boeing 777-300ER planes, an extended-range version of the twin-engine Boeing 777, will be delivered from 2013 to 2016 to meet the fast growing demand in Asia-Pacific China, said the Shanghai and Hong Kong-listed airline based in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

Once the ten aircraft delivered, the airline's available ton kilometers, a measure of capacity would increase by 7.9% from the end of last year.

China Southern Airlines expects to receive its third A380, a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus, on Mar. 1 to provide flight service from Beijing to Hong Kong, sources reported.
