Shanghai GM leads passenger vehicle sales in Jan: CAAM

Feb. 22, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Shanghai GM, a joint venture between General Motors and SAIC Motor Corp Ltd<600104>, ranked first in the top ten passenger vehicle maker list released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers with sales of 123,400 units last month.

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Corp ranked second with 110,700 passenger vehicles sold in August, followed by Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co Ltd’s 110,000 units, FAW Volkswagen’s 73,100 units, Dongfeng Nissan Ltd’s 66,500 units, Beijing Hyundai Motor Co’s 62,000 units, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co Ltd<000625 ><200625>  44,000 units, Chery Automobile Co Ltd’s 39,300 units, Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd<0175> 38,500 units and Dongfeng Automobile Co Ltd <600006> 37,800 units.

Passenger vehicle sales of the ten companies totaled 677,000 units last month, accounting for 60.77% of the total passenger vehicle sales in China in the month.

For the commercial vehicle market in China, Dongfeng Automobile ranked first in the top ten commercial vehicle maker list with 37,200 commercial vehicles sold in January.

The top ten commercial vehicle makers sold a total of 162,500 commercial vehicles last month, or 70.9% of the total commercial vehicle sales in China in the month, according to a separate report from CAAM.
