Ford Motor's China sales down 41.9% in Jan

Feb. 9, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Ford Motor Co, the second-largest car company in the U.S., has said that it sold 30,976 cars in China in January this year, 41.9% less than that during the corresponding period of 2011.

The sharp decline in auto sales last month was due to a low inventory and the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday.

Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co, Ford Motor's passenger vehicle joint venture in China, sold 18,324 Ford-branded vehicles last month, reflecting a decrease of 43% year on year.

Jiangling Motors Co<000550><200550>, Ford Motor's commercial vehicle JV, saw its auto sales volume fall 43% year on year to 12,045 units in January.

The company said that its Chongqing-based assembly plant jointly constructed with Changan Ford Mazda starts operation in the first quarter this year.
